Independent Living Nova Scotia – Forging the Links

Independent Living Nova Scotia – Forging the Links

When Independent Living Nova Scotia (ILNS) is holds its Annual General Meeting on June 1, it will launch a new project and a resource directory, both aiming to support mature persons with disabilities. The new project is titled, Forging the Links: Connecting Mature Canadians with Disabilities to Supports and Services Necessary for Independent Living.

“Forging the Links aims to provide links and partnerships to strengthen full and active citizenship for mature Canadians living with a disability,” stated Monnah Green, Project Co-ordinator. In 2008, ILNS identified the need for access to information on services to support aging in place for mature persons with disabilities.

“This current project will address this information need through a series of workshops and through sustainable partnerships among community service providers to ensure mature Canadians with disabilities continue to live as full and active citizens in their communities,” said Green. This project is funded by the Government of Canada’s Social Development Partnerships Program – Disability component.

At the June 1 event, ILNS will also showcase its new Aging with Disability and Dignity in Nova Scotia resource directory, which contains listings of 150 services that support mature persons with disability. The directory will be available in both hard copy and in electronic format.

Independent Living Nova Scotia is a registered charity supporting persons with disabilities to make informed choices about how they want to live their lives, through programs and services that promote Independent Living.
