A Free Online Employment Tool for Canadians with Disabilities and the Employers Who Need Them: Skills Training Partnership (STP)®

Media Release:
Persons with disabilities remain the most under represented group in Canada’s workforce. Of the 14.3 per cent of the Canadian population identified as living with a disability, 44 per cent of those who are eligible to work, are unemployed.  In response, the Canadian Council on Rehabilitation and Work is releasing its employment program, Skills Training Partnership (STP)®

Skills Training Partnership (STP)® is a unique project designed to assist employers in developing training programs to prepare qualified job seekers with disabilities for employment. It is an opportunity for employers to gain expert assistance in recruiting, hiring, and training skilled employees who have disabilities.

The STP® model is a CCRW trademarked and government recognized ‘effective practices’ approach designed to integrate the skills and talents of persons with disabilities into the workforce. From 1995 – 2001, STP® projects integrated over 400 job seekers with disabilities into the workforce with a success rate of 83% employment retention.

Since December of 2009 the Canadian Council on Rehabilitation and Work (CCRW) completed work through the Building Employment Partnerships (BEP) project to provide the STP® model as a free online employment resource tool!

The redevelopment of the STP® employment resource tool was made possible through funding from the Government of Canada's Social Development and Partnership Program - Disability Component. The project used a three phase approach bringing together leading disability employment agencies, employers and job seekers with disabilities.

On September 30, 2011 the CCRW launched the new STP® website, www.stp-pac.ca.  Employers, job seekers with disabilities, and community agencies can access the model to develop an STP® which will support recruiting and retaining qualified Canadians with disabilities into the workforce.

As an employer, why use STP®? What’s in it for you?  You will gain expert assistance in recruiting, hiring, and training skilled employees with disabilities. Persons with disabilities enhance their skills to meet the demands of the labour market and community agencies increase their partnerships as they manage and develop successful STP® projects.
